Welcome to
American Heritage Mu Alpha Theta's website.
Mu Alpha Theta (MAT) is the national high
school and junor college mathematics club for honors
students. The club is sponsored by the National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Mathematics
Association of America (MAA). The club was founded by
Richard and Josephine Andree at the University of Oklahoma
in 1957. According to the national charter, the mission of
Mu Alpha Theta is "...dedicated to engendering keener
interest in mathematics, the development of strong
scholarship in the subject and promoting the enjoyment of
mathematics among high school and junior and community
college students."
Members of our club have
obtained and maintained a 3.5 unweighted grade point average in college
preparitory mathematics and a 3.25 unweighted overall grade point average.
Our members compete in regional and state mathematics competitions.
They also run a successful peer help program for students in need of
assistance in their math class as well as sponsor our school's Toys
for Tots program during the holiday season.
